I don't generally pay much attention to all the "do it and/or have it all" debates - especially when it comes to parenting - but I really enjoyed this take:

"As for the past generations that like to tell you that they raised six kids on their own and did it without a washing machine? Well, sort of. Keep in mind child rearing was viewed pretty differently not that long ago and you could stick a toddler on the front lawn with just the dog watching and nobody would bat an eye at it – I used to walk to the store in my bare feet to buy my father’s cigarettes when I was a kid. As a mother, you cooked, you cleaned, but nobody expected you to do anything much more than keep your kids fed and tidy." ~ Pregnant Chicken

I feel that low (simple) standards really are the key to a happy life
A slightly-more-interesting-than-normal view from the cube.

I'm all for giving women a variety of empowering birth options but this homebirth supply list has me very thankful I'll be at the hospital once again.

Seriously, I can make some educated guesses at the need for garbage bags but the cookie sheet has me totally stumped. Bendy straws? Pot with lid?

I'm not sure I even want to know.

"The choice in this election couldn’t be clearer, and not just on this issue. It’s the difference between a president who cares about the future of our education system, our public sector workers, and the social programs that attempt to keep those in need afloat, versus a party who doesn’t. It’s the difference between a president who has regained much of our respect in the world and has a proven record of successful foreign policy experience, versus a candidate with no experience, Bush’s foreign policy advisors, and reckless and wildly inconsistent ideas about the rest of the world. It’s the difference between a president who supports rights for women to receive equal pay for equal work, to have access to contraception, and to seek a safe and legal abortion if necessary, versus a party who would deny all of these rights. It’s a choice between a President who has dug this economy out of the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression versus a party who wants to return to the policies that caused the collapse in the first place. It’s the choice between a president who regards global warming as a real and tangible threat versus a party who thinks the climate change is a hoax, a joke, or both. It’s the difference between a president who doesn’t think you should go broke or die because of medical costs, versus a party that sees only the bottom line for the insurance industry. It’s the choice between a president who believes in equality versus a party who believes so profoundly in discrimination that they would amend our Constitution to reflect their extreme ideology. And that’s just off the top of my head." ~ Daniel Kanter @ Manhattan Nest

This is the best thing I've read so far about why Americans should vote for Obama.

So good it made me cry. And I'm not the weepy type. Partial responsibility may be shared with the resident fetus but still, this guy is an amazing writer making excellent points.

And Canadians should care too. We are certainly not immune from making stupid election decisions motivated purely by ignorance, fear and greed. Stupid decisions which threaten to undermine the very things in which we take pride and use to define ourselves as a nation.

My Halloween costume.

With bonus photo-bombing midget.

I'm officially the only one who got this and/or thought it was remotely funny.

Any guesses?
