Totally inspiring: Meaty Bohemian.

Her idea of going around the dinner table and asking everyone what made them happy today feels like exactly what I didn't know I was looking for in a family ritual.

If that makes any sense at all.

Her recipes look pretty good too.

  1. Hi- thanks for the vote of confidence, and I am geared up to try the broccoli with the bacon fat...um, yum.
We were forced to hold hands at the table and sing Thank You God growing up. It was awkward and uncomfortable. Maybe that is because I was an adolescent when it all went down, but anyway, I digress...the happy today ritual opens up so much conversation. It really helps us share our day and be considerate of each other. Recently we started asking what made you sad today, too, because I felt like those kinds of things needed to be voiced (and I am learning so much about my family from their responses)...
You have a lovely, honest blog, I appreciate shooting from the hip.

  2. Hi Amy,

Growing up very non-religious home, thankfully there was no forced hand-holding at my family dinners. There was however more of a "let's sit around and bitch about other people" vibe than I'd like to have in my own home. Not that all sharing/conversation has to be happy-happy but I think it's a really nice starting point for conversation. I'm really looking forward to it especially when I have kids that are old enough to have days of their own to discuss.

    Thanks for stopping by :)
